I was amazed that on the same day as the final audition we were also told the parts. I had butterflies in my tummy! Honestly, everybody knew that Anabel was going to get the part of Belle, as she is simply perfect for the character of Belle! The rest of the parts however were a mystery that would be solved in a few minutes. We were all a little hyper and excited as we walked into the Halla Nua! As Mrs Olahan called out the parts we all cheered and clapped for the people who received each part. The most incredible reaction was when Mrs Olahan announced that Marc Finn would play the part of ‘The Beast’! Everyone was overwhelmed with happiness for him and the cheer Marc received made the ground vibrate! I was really happy for him! I thought the parts were distributed very well, almost everyone who deserved a part got one. I will be playing the part of a ‘Silly Girl’ which I am really looking forward to! Lots of my friends are Silly Girls too, so it will be lots of fun acting together on stage!
I am looking forward to all the rehearsals after the Christmas Holidays, they will be intense and tiring but the most important thing is that they will be a great experience and lots of fun!

When the date came for the last audition everyone was a little nervous on the inside, including me! This one last audition was my last chance to secure a part in the musical! The girls went first, and the first thing we had to do was simply walk in a certain way. We had to go in twos, I was with Rachael Cullen, and we were asked to walk the length of the room pretending to be flirty girls! We were not allowed to speak, we simply had to use body language to portray a young and flirty girl. Next we had to do the same, but this time pretending to be grande, rich, elderly ladies. Honestly it was quite funny watching my friends acting! After this, each person was given a script, and we had to each read a line of the script. It was a conversation between Belle, Mrs Potts and Madame de la Grande Bouche (the wardrobe). Then we had to act out the scene in groups of three. I was with Emma and Anna. Emma was The Wardrobe, Anna Mrs Potts and I was Belle. It was fun acting out a scene in front of the others and being in the character of Belle! Last but not least, we all stood around the piano and sang the song ‘Beauty and the Beast’. I personally find it quite a challenging song to sing, as it is sung quite low and I find it easier to sing higher! Our final audition was done, and now all we could do was wait to be told which part we were given… Belle Mrs Potts Madame de la Grande Bouche
Since the very first day of Transition Year, we were all impatient to discover what musical we would be doing this year!! I have heard from many people who have already done Transition Year in St Gerards, and in other schools nationwide, that the musical is one of the highlights of TY. Whether you’re the main character or part of the ensemble, everyone seems to get an equal amount of joy and fun out of the TY musical. It is the only TY activity that the entire year participate in, which is an amazing thing in itself. After doing our first musical workshop, I was pumped with enthusiasm for our musical! The purpose of the Musical Workshop was to get a sense of the level of singing and dancing in our year group, and to find out what type of singers and performers we were. After many, many weeks of waiting we finally discovered the chosen TY Musical 2017….it is ‘Beauty and the Beast’! We were all gathered in the Halla Nua, I could feel the curiosity swimming in the room as everyone waited to hear the name of the musical. Everyone was very happy with the choice, we all clapped and cheered together once we were told our musical! It will be the first Disney Musical the school has ever put on, which is, to say the least, very exciting! Also this musical has many different parts, so almost everyone in the year is guaranteed a part, which is very important! Throughout the following weeks, auditions were scheduled for boys and girls separately. It was a little frightening as after each audition a few girls were taken off the list for getting a principle part in the Musical. In my opinion we have an extraordinary talented year, as there are countless girls and boys who are good at singing or dancing, or both! I am certain that our musical will be a great success, as we have lots of talent available for the parts! |
