On Tuesday at Assembly when the teachers announced to us that we could volunteer to become ‘a buddy’ or ‘cara’ of a first year, I immediately signed up. From what I understood we would simply be a friendly and familiar face to them from the older years. We would answer their questions if they were unsure about something or had any queries and if they had an issue we would be there to help. I thought that if I was a first year I would be very grateful to have a buddy as it would be nice to know someone from the older years. Also sometimes it's easier to talk to a student than to your parents or teachers. I wrote down my name and the next day I received a piece of paper with my designated first year. I was paired with Ella Begley, Harry’s little sister who is in my year. I knew her a little bit as she was a soprano like me in the choir. The following week the school organised a hot-chocolate and cookie morning for us to meet our buddies and to get to know them a bit. I thought this was a lovely idea. I found Ella and sat opposite her, a hot-chocolate in one hand, a cookie in the other and a smile on my face! As Carla’s buddy wasn’t in, she joined in with Ella and me, which was nice. We talked for awhile, I asked about her hobbies and favourite subjects, about her summer and friends. She was very kind and nice to talk to! The time flew by and by the time I knew it I was saying bye to my buddy. I enjoyed this ‘Buddy Morning’ and am very glad I signed up for it! I will do my best to be a good and helpful buddy to Ella throughout the year.

Cara ProgrammeThe Cara Programme is where an older student, being a fourth or fifth yea, is assigned a first year to look after! As Senior School is a whole new experience for first years, their 'buddies' are simply there to help them if they need it, or answer any questions they might have. ArchivesCategories |
