Since the very first day of Transition Year, we were all impatient to discover what musical we would be doing this year!! I have heard from many people who have already done Transition Year in St Gerards, and in other schools nationwide, that the musical is one of the highlights of TY. Whether you’re the main character or part of the ensemble, everyone seems to get an equal amount of joy and fun out of the TY musical. It is the only TY activity that the entire year participate in, which is an amazing thing in itself. After doing our first musical workshop, I was pumped with enthusiasm for our musical! The purpose of the Musical Workshop was to get a sense of the level of singing and dancing in our year group, and to find out what type of singers and performers we were. After many, many weeks of waiting we finally discovered the chosen TY Musical 2017….it is ‘Beauty and the Beast’! We were all gathered in the Halla Nua, I could feel the curiosity swimming in the room as everyone waited to hear the name of the musical. Everyone was very happy with the choice, we all clapped and cheered together once we were told our musical! It will be the first Disney Musical the school has ever put on, which is, to say the least, very exciting! Also this musical has many different parts, so almost everyone in the year is guaranteed a part, which is very important! Throughout the following weeks, auditions were scheduled for boys and girls separately. It was a little frightening as after each audition a few girls were taken off the list for getting a principle part in the Musical. In my opinion we have an extraordinary talented year, as there are countless girls and boys who are good at singing or dancing, or both! I am certain that our musical will be a great success, as we have lots of talent available for the parts!
