To raise money for our Difference Day at Sunbeam House Services, we organised a sponsored walk! A couple of weeks prior to our sponsored walk, each student in Transition Year was given a record card to fill in. Our goal was to fill in this card with the names of our sponsors and collect money to facilitate our very own Difference Day. It was perfect timing for me as I went to visit my family in Tipperary for a family event, so it was the perfect opportunity to ask my family to sponsor me, and they all did so willingly! I explained to them the concept of Difference Days and the reason we had chosen to do our Difference Day with Sunbeam House services in Bray.
Difference Day is a chance for us to give something back to our community, it is a day where everyone comes together to help out their community and make a difference. For our difference Day we were going to transofrm the garden and build a gazebo and a playground at Sunbeam House services, a big challenge but it'll be worth all the effort!
How were we going to complete this project without any equipment or materials? To purchase all of the equipment and materials to do the job we needed to raise money, and quite a lot of it; over thirteen-thousand euros to be exact! A group of TY students helped out at the annual St Gerard's Golf outing, and the money raised from this event went towards our Difference Day too. The rest of the money we as a year group had to raise through our sponsored walk. Could we do it?
The answer most definitly was, yes we could! With all the record cards and money given in to the Difference Day organisers, all the TY students arrived at school on the 5th of May pumped for the walk ahead of us! We were going to do a 17km hike across three-peaks: the Sugarloaf, The Little Sugarloaf and Bray Head.

First stop the Sugarloaf! One down, two to go! My heart was already thumping fast and my legs becoming more stubborn by the minute but we all reached the top of the Sugarloaf with smiles on our faces. This walk was the perfect chance for me to try out my new hiking boots for the Camino, and so far so good. Thankfully the weather was kind to us, there was even a light breeze to cool us down during the walk! Once we reached the top and posed for a group photo we continued our adventure.
Time for a well deserved lunch at the very top of The Little Sugarloaf! This was probably the toughest climb of the day and the sun shined more brightly than ever causing us to sweat and squint while trudging up the mountain! The views from the top were absolutly stunning, the sparkling sea on one side and the impressive Wicklow Mountains on the otherside.
Some beautiful horses spotted on our way to the top of Bray Head! And of course you can see the sea in the distance, a very idyllic scene.
Making our way up Bray Head at a steady pace, enjoying the stunning scenery and the sounds and smells of the nature all around us. Almost there!
We made it!!! It felt incredibe to have completed the Three-Peaks Challenge, and the views at the top of Bray Head were astonishing and awe-inspiring. Once we arrived in Bray I let out a sigh of relief, 17km done, 3 mountains climbed and I'm still standing and smiling. I thought to myself, if I can do this, then I can do the Camino de Santiago! I got an oreo and vanilla ice cream once we had completed the challenge, I don't think I ever enjoyed an ice cream as much as I did that day! It most definitly was a challenge, and once we had completed it it brought on a wonderful sense of achievement! This was a fantastic and fun way to raise money for our Difference Day.
